John Leslie Breck is an exhibition organized by The Mint Museum, curated by Jonathan Stuhlman. The exhibition design was developed by HannaH Crowell and scenic murals painted by Tim Parati. The exhibition includes approximately 70 of Breck’s finest works, drawn from public and private collections.

My role in this show was the graphics development. They were highly inspired from the intricate art nouveau, victorian frames that encase many of the works found in the gallery. Inspiration for typography was also drawn from Breck’s own signature that featured exaggerated extensions of the ascenders, descenders, and legs of the letterforms. This is most clearly exemplified in the title design of the exhibition where the font Modesto Open Inline fill was manipulated to imitate this.

A full synopsis of the exhibition can be viewed here on the Mint Museum website.

The exhibition was accompanied by an audio tour that was developed by the museums garden club. An icon to represent this within the gallery to guide visitors to the works that were included in the tour. Cover art for each work was created for the mobile viewing of the audio files.
